Food Additives: E-Numbers

In short

No account, no server of our own. Your filters, saved products and scan history are stored only on this phone; we can't see them.

What stays on your phone

Your profiles and filters (halal, vegan, allergens, additives you don't want), saved products, notes, scan history and settings are kept in the app's storage on your phone. If you delete the app, they are deleted too. Only you create the backup file, and you choose where to put it.

Camera and photos

The camera is used to read barcodes and to take a photo of the label. The text on the label is read with the phone's own text recognition, without internet; the photo is not sent anywhere and the app does not store it.

Barcode lookup (Open Food Facts)

When you scan a barcode, the product information is requested directly from your phone from Open Food Facts. Only the barcode number is sent in this request; Open Food Facts sees the IP address of the device making the request. Open Food Facts' own privacy policy applies. The product information received is cached on your phone.

Ads (Google AdMob)

The free version shows a small ad on some screens. The ads are served by Google AdMob, which may collect data such as the device advertising ID, approximate location (from the IP), device information and ad interactions for this purpose. You are asked for permission on first launch; if you don't give it, non-personalised ads are shown. On iPhone, tracking permission is asked separately. Your filters, the products you scan and your saved items are not shared with the ad provider.

Premium purchase

Premium is purchased through the App Store or Google Play's own payment system. Your payment details do not reach us; the app only learns from the store whether the purchase is valid.

Children

The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children.

If this policy changes, the new text is published on this page and inside the app; the date is updated.
